One of the first things to do if you are looking for a college grant for single moms is to fill out the FAFSA as soon as your taxes are done. The FAFSA is the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It must be done as soon as possible as many grants are on a first-come/first serve basis. By submitting the FAFSA to the colleges or universities of your choice, you will find out if you are eligible for Pell Grants, a government grant program. In addition, you will be reviewed for eligibility for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) by submitting the FAFSA in a timely manner.
Some grants are based on merit and targeted skills. For instance, the Academic Competitiveness Grant and the National SMART grant are awarded to students who have shown a high academic potential in high school and also who might want to go into a science or math career. There are a myriad of private and university funded grants that won't be obvious to you unless you find out you meet the requirements.
